About Me
Education
My education has taken me through both counseling and social work. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from St. Mary’s University and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. I’ve also completed the highest level of training in the Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM), earning the designation of Post-Master’s Fellow.
Experience
I’ve been in private practice since 2016. Before that, I worked in a variety of settings, including residential programs, street outreach, drop-in centers, and school-based clinics. In 2009, I founded RECLAIM, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to mental health support so queer and trans youth can reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms.
Extra
I’m deeply committed to providing respectful, affirming, and accessible care for transgender clients. Over the years, I’ve taken on both formal and informal leadership roles, helping bring mental health and medical providers together to learn from one another and improve the quality of care for trans people in our community.
Personal
I was born and raised in the Midwest and grew up in a middle-class Methodist household. As an adult, meditation and Buddhist principles such as mindful presence, acceptance, impermanence, and interdependence have become meaningful parts of my own life. When clients are interested, I’m happy to explore how these practices might complement their therapy.
I’m white, cisgender, queer, and able-bodied, among many other parts of who I am. I have an adult daughter who is out exploring the world, while I hold things down at home with my awesome cat, JP, and dog, Ginny. I love to cook, treasure my travels, and find a particular kind of joy in playing Ultimate Frisbee. Who knew chasing a round piece of plastic could be so darn much fun?
Does this sound familiar?
I am very hard on myself. I feel tremendous guilt and shame.
